| A face full of water and awesome scenery await those who venture onto the Snake River or other waters in Jackson Hole.
With an abundance of rivers and lakes providing all levels of ability and experience, visitors can choose a wild, whitewater ride on a raft or kayak, or a quiet paddle on any of the area's lakes.
Carving the Jackson Hole valley, the dynamic Snake River can be either the most peaceful or exciting way to experience the area. Whether in a guided group raft trip or alone in a kayak, the river provides a unique way to see the wildlife drawn to its banks.
At all times wile floating the river, you are within the habitat of the bald eagle. These great birds perch on trees that dot the river or soar above it, seeking a meal of the trout that swim the river. They are easy to spot along any stretch. Majestic white pelicans, ducks, geese and even trumpeter swans may be found in and around the river. More elusive are river otters and moose, but spotting them is fairly common. Bear, or at least their prints in the sand, may be sighted along many river banks.
As the Snake flows south toward Alpine Canyon, where it's rushing current is squeezed between rock walls, the rivers waters turn to white rapids. What better way is there to turn a quiet float into a gripping and dripping wild ride! Many rafting companies offer guided group raft trips, which include shuttle service. Rafts, kayaks, and canoes are also available for rent at many valley shops.
